Nutrition Boosting Tips for Toddlers

This mac and cheese is more than just comfort food — with a few tweaks, it can be a well-rounded meal:

✅ Add a veggie puree like butternut squash, cauliflower, or carrot to the cheese sauce for extra fiber and vitamin A — it blends right in and toddlers won’t even notice.

✅ Use whole grain or legume-based pasta for added iron, protein, and fiber.

✅ Stir in protein like finely shredded chicken, mashed white beans, or soft scrambled egg for added staying power.

✅ Use real cheese (preferably sharp cheddar) for calcium and healthy fat to support brain development.

Recipe Tips + Swaps

  • 🧈 Dairy-free? Use plant-based milk, butter, and dairy-free cheese.

  • 🌾 Gluten-free? Swap in your favorite GF pasta.

  • 🧀 Mix up the cheese – Try Monterey Jack, mozzarella, Gruyère, or a mix for deeper flavor.

  • 🥦 Add-ins: Toss in steamed broccoli, peas, or shredded rotisserie chicken for a more complete meal.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stove with a splash of milk to bring back the creaminess.
